INTERVIEW
Status of a married woman How do you feel after almost a year and a half of marriage?
Very happy and still in love like that first day in New York. What is cool is the freedom: that space that we give each other to be together, but also to tend to our things.
What is your secret to love this way like you and Tommy?
Definately God put us together for something, we are made for each other, but there is something definately essential: patience, the respect we have and how we laugh, joke and enjoy life to the max.
How do you spoil Tommy? your cook, for example?
Well it's very personal, but cooking no, because if I cook I'll poison whoever tastes my dishes. And Federica, my sister-an excellent chef- taught me to prepare sushi, rices and other dishes, but what I need is practice, though I would love to do it. In reality I don't know how I spoil Tommy...I think being how I am, tender and caressing
Is he the same way?
Of course, a lot. We are very affectionate and caressing.
Do you have plans for motherhood?
Obviously I want to be a mother some day; it's a responsability and an experience that I want to live, but I feel that is not yet the moment.
What does your mom mean to you?
She is my great friend, maybe the best one; my accomplice, an excellent manager, a great negotiatior and most of all a mother full of love and happiness. I think that if she weren't by my side my career would have not had the same result. She has opened the doors to so many countries...
Is it true, presidents of many nations have received you, you have paralized whole cities. Is there a country that you are interested in?
Yes, Japan, since it's a very closed industry but which loves everything that has to do with Latins. I have on my plans some places that will soon fall on my nets, I'll make sure of that with my next album
Normally it is thought that when recording an English album what is pretended is to do the famous crossover to the U.S. market, what do you think about this?
My focus with this new album, that comes in English and Spanish, is to continue strong in whathave been my territories and also to open way in new horizons, call it Germany, Japan or the U.S. The crossover is not a new word for me. Since 1992 I have been taking my shows to countries like Philippines, Indonesia, Brazil, Spain, Greece... and the conquest never ends. What is important is to keep your image and the love shown in a moment by those countries.
You are dedicated to yourself and to your husband, in which place is your career now?
Well, I’m a person who has been working since 9 years of age. I was always involved in that. But now is my moment to live. I’ve learned that I have to take care of myself and of my family. I’ve learned that life is not to travel in a plane, sing on weekends and to be recording in a forum from Monday to Friday. Now I give myself time to fill my soul of positive things. In a few words, I work to be happy..
What is your actual challenge?
To not worry too much, to relax, to be with people and enjoy everything: the recordings, the concerts, the photo sessions.
Did you suffer before?
I would worry about everything. I’m a perfectionist and also I’m a Virgo, that is methodic, so I suffered a lot with the tiniest thing that was not perfect. If in a concert a guitar was discordant or a light would stop working I would worry a lot about that and I had a bad time; I suffered more than I should. But since “Arrasando†I started to break conduct patterns, to relax, to enjoy and let myself go. I have many years in this already.
You could write a book...
I’m already doing that! I travel with my computer everywhere and when I have time I write all that I think, my memories and everything in general that has taken me to where I am at.
It’s an autobiography?
Almost but very funny and real. It's full of thinking and the idea is to show people that want to come into this business that it’s not too easy. First, you have to avail opportunities and later work a lot. This book is a guide to be an artist in which I share my experiences.
You never have been a person who is concerned much about the designers but there are sometimes that you wear designers' clothes.
Yes, I have never been very concerned about it because there are things that are more important to think about. I’ll not say that I don’t wear desingers' clothes in my shows or for the cover of magazines and where you know that your image will appear somewhere. I wear clothes of important designers or new designers with interesting proposals. Sometimes I like weird things like Vintage or original and antique things. It all depends: for dialy use I wear super comfortable clothing, like jeans, t-shirts and shoes with no high heels.
How are you in work matters?
I’m very good. There are plans to do a television show here in the United States but nothing clear yet. I have received proposals to do movies in Mexico and I love those proposals. Also there are proposals from Spain but I still haven't decided about it and I received a lot of proposals from Hollywood but those I don’t like at all.
Why? What did they offer you?
You know the classic character stereotypes of the Latin woman who has to wear super low necks, that says bad words, or she must appear wear a super tight red dress and she must shout in all the movie Arrr¡¡¡ (laughs). The truth is I don’t like that. I know that there are people that want to come to Hollywood so bad that they take off their clothes and do that kind of characters. Fortunately, thanks to the soap operas others paths opened for me. I think that in the soap where I showed the most was in Marimar, when I came out with the dress all torn out... I'm going the right way and that makes me happy.
What has been the most difficult thing that has happened to you in your career?
Definately “Rosalinda†was very hard because the press showed no mercy with the soap opera since the first episode. The press didn’t give even a week of opportunity, they started to talk very bad about the soap opera. But “Rosalinda†had the best rating and was the most sold soap opera of the world according to stastics of Televisa. I learned to maintain my decisions and to believe in myself withotu deviating my focus point. I centered me a lot. That soap marked the way I see my career from another angle.
Tell us about your new business.
I signed with the Kenmark company to launch an eyewear line designed by me. The glasses are very fashion and nice. First they will to come out in the USA (in March) and then in Mexico and other countries that are my territories. The company is super happy because they are receiving more orders than they expected.
What do you miss about Mexico?
My family and friends. To be able to go to eat tacos, the lunches that become dinners and later in parties that last until the following day . I miss my mom, my sisters, the flavor of Mexico. Believe me it's difficult to wake up English and sleep in English.
Do you miss somebody of your past, some friends who you don’t see anymore?
Yes of course some. From the people of my school to co-workers. Some days ago I had a dream where I was laughing a lot with Diego Shoening , Erick Rubin, and Benny Ibarra at a dinner. It makes me very happy to see them like complete peple Diego and Benny like fathers and also Erick like a new husband. I would love to have a reunion with all of them to remember old moments with our couples and them with their babies.
Finally who do you admire?
Obviously Tommy, I love that he is very simple. I love that he worries about everybody from the people that work for him to my friends. There is someone else that I also I admire and I think that he was very similar to Tommy: Mr. Emilio Azcarraga Milmo (Televisa´s owner who died in 1997). He was a gentleman in every sense of the word, he was an important pillar of my career.
